Red Gown I by AngelaClaytonCosplay Red Gown I by AngelaClaytonCosplay
This was my ridiculously detailed gown that I made the three weeks prior to katsucon. It was really stressful, and required a lot of time and hand sewing. All the cording, beads, hem, and trim were stitched on by hand and it took ages! Regardless I love this dress a lot and i'm pretty proud of it~

Beautiful! Im just curious on how you made it! Did you use a pattern at all? And those sleeve types always drive me insane to tackle, must of been so difficult

Thank you! I drafted all my own patterns for this, I talk about it here [link]. To be honest it wasn't the pattern that was hard, it was hand sewing on all the cording and "puffed" ivory trim, and the piping. That wasn't really difficult either, just super time consuming and rage-inducing haha.

This reminds me of one of the gowns Juliet wears in Franco Zefirelli's Romeo and Juliet film. Beautiful job dear. I wish I had seen you.

Ahh, I see the resemblance! They come from the same time period, so it shouldn't be terribly surprising. Thank you very much ^^

You are welcome. I also really enjoyed reading your blog about the royal milk tea costume you modeled, which I do remember seeing. You looked lovely and mind blowingly fancy, and now I know why :P

Seriously though, if you haven't seen Franco Zefirelli's movies, they are a shmorgasborg of costuming eye candy. My favorites of his are Romeo and Juliet and the Taming of the Shrew. Both are extremely beautiful. I haven't seen a few of his other well known ones but he definitely has a place in film and theater history.

You are a total doll! My favorite part of this dress is the flower details around the empire waist I don't know why I just think they look just lovely!

I like that part a lot too! The trim I originally bought was really flat, and I hated it. I ended up buying fabric flowers, picking off the petals, rearranging them, and sewing pearls in the center of them to create that trim! It was a really time consuming detail that isn't super obvious, but I love dearly. So I'm really happy you commented on it
