Description

Well...some more progress! This costume is very slowly coming together, and i'm very excited to get it finished. I still have two weeks until my deadline, so I hopefully I can get it done by then!

A few weeks back the creator of "Napoleon" and the head artist for Eiyuu*Senki tweeted a picture of my costume with the tagline "Napoleon....Amazing..." to his 20,000 followers. The picture he tweeted ended up hitting #5 most popular on tumblr home.jp. A different W.I.P photo has gotten over 550 notes in the last 48 hours, which is quite exciting! The support and reactions to this costume have been so amazing, I'm really grateful for all of it.

Honestly, the internet has kept me enthusiastic about working on this, even when it comes to the crazy frustrating bits. Though sometimes I rage quit when I come to really annoying parts, I take a break by working on my Marika [Mourestu Pirates] costume, or play a few games of LoL (which I FINALLY got on my new laptop).

I still have lot's left to do, and plenty of buttons left to add, but it's getting there!

Breakdown:

The skirt is made of bridal satin flipped so the shiny is on the inside. It's 4 circle skirts sewn together with a mixture of horse hair braid and interfacing strips sewn into the hem. Once that was done I gathered the top until the ruffle was 40" [my hip measurement] it was then attached to a impromptu waistband. It closes in the back with a zipper and is paired with a leg avenue petticoat to pump up the volume even further.

The top is made of red cotton jersey which was purchased for $4 a yard in NYC, the entire thing is very soft and lightweight. The collar and front 1 1/2" panels have interfacing to support the 15 buttons and 14 snaps which hold it closed. The bottom hem is in a double V shape, which makes it accurate to her original battling design. The pattern was drafted by myself.

The jacket is made of a wool blend picked up for $5 a yard in NYC. I drafted the eight piece pattern myself. The front panels have interfacing in them, and the back has darts. The collar that holds the buttons was added separately and I used the same jersey from my shirt as piping. It has around 43 buttons on it, but I still need to add a few more to the cuffs.

The vest is made of a heavyweight black satin, so it's faintly shiny, but in a good way. the lapels have interfacing in them to support the buttons, once again, drafted by myself!

The socks were purchased on ebay, I bought two pairs and sewed them together since i'm so tall. They have interfacing strips on the inside which support the buttons, added by myself of course.

The boots were purchased for $20 at famous footwear, I removed the straps and added the cuff myself. The buttons are also additions made by yours truly.
